3. Always Present the Best Possible Image


The following points may seem to be minor, but they have a major influence on the success of a speaker. You should keep the following in mind when answering questions.

Speak to be understood
  • Use friendly conversational tone
  • Speak loudly but not louder then the interviewer
  • Vary the tone of your voice
  • Use the words “you” and “we” often to help establish a rapport
Establish and maintain eye contact

Allow you eyes to roam over the interview panel. Catch each person’s gaze for a fraction of an instant to:
  • Keep you aware of what is going on
  • Keep everybody’s attention
  • Get feedback on where or not you are understood
Control nervousness
  • Avoid distracting mannerisms: clicking your pen, continuously clearing your throat, saying “um” and “ah”
